confused Dti owners turbo on startup

Just a quick question about your car on startup, When I start mine and drive away there's hardly any power at first it seems restricted but now and again it will surge like turbo has kicked in.After 5 mins or so it's normal and boost kicks in around 1700 revs
Now this only happens 1st cold start and I'm sure I was told a while ago it's normal as it's to protect turbo ? Does anyone elses Dti do the same ?

Yeah but I thought it was my tuning box doing it

I take it that it will normally happen when you have your foot on the throttle and it will surge without you pressing any harder. Normally does it on a hill in mine. Probably does it once and then its fine for the rest of the day

Yeah but I put it down to cold oil. When the oil is cold the turbo won't move quite as freely as when it's heated up and thinned down a bit.

Using 0w 40 as I do, the oil is pretty thin even when cold, the benifits are great mpg and increased power. Downside is the engine is noisy

Using 10w or 15w 40 semi synth will be thicker when cold but the engine will be quieter/better protected.
