Exclamation Wiper Linkage - failed O/S Wiper

    Hey guys,

My driver side wiper failed and is pretty limp and lifeless compared top the normal operating passenger side wiper. Having popped the nut cover and attempting to tighten the bolt I noticed that when you move the wiper arm the bolt is swiverling with it hense ist working on moving the wiper arm.

Is this the linkage failure, can anyone offer a quick fix to get me going again? http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...hlight=linkage I believe that thread offers solutions but I am not to sure if it relates to the problem I am having.

Can somone explain to me further my problem and solution ASAP please.

    Thanks!

That thread you've mentioned is to replace the whole lot, which isn't a quick fix. take a look at the 5th picture in this thread:

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?p=188355

See the two cable ties towards the bottom left of the linkage mechanism? That's the quick fix - one of the rods on your has popped off; put it back on and use cable ties to hold it in place.

A better fix is to replace the dodgy rods with these uprated ones, and it's still much cheaper than replacing the whole mechanism:

Also check out this site: http://www.wipex.co.uk/ My wiper linkage gave up on me, and have just had the replacement arms installed last week- worked a treat. So much cheaper that buying the whole assembly here from Aus.

    Cheers

B*ll*x! (Not that that is officially a swear word, but hey) I wish I'd seen that before I paid £175 to replace the complete linkage a few weeks back, when mine failed in torrential rain. Thought it would be covered by warranty but they only cover the motor, not the linkage.

On the plus side, my Vec failed its MOT on a broken spring this week, which they have decided is covered. So, that's £102 I can claim back.

    Happy Christmas everyone!

Cable ties about 2 years old and still going strong. I do check the wipers aren't frozen to the screen now....

Just wondering if anyone knows if I'm doing something wrong. I've tried plastic cable ties and they keep snapping after a couple of weeks. Also tried velcro cable ties, which lasted longer (about 5 weeks). Only thing I can think of is that I am tying them too tight.
Any of you that have them on for years do anything special?
