AA or RAC are both very good - they use very similar business models. Greenflag operate differently, as they use tow truck drivers, rather than technically-trained patrols.

If your car won't start, the RAC or AA patrol will plug in his laptop and see what the fault codes are and determine if it's something he can fix there and then, if not then he'll tell you what the codes are so you can advise the garage that he tows you to. The Greenflag driver will be armed with just a screwdriver, scratch his head and say all he can do is tow you to a garage - and as he's not directly employed by Greenflag he first has to get definite authorisation from them that they agree to the towing cost, otherwise he'll be worried he won't get paid.

As the car is broken down already they might not cover you ...........
The AA also do a repair warrenty not sure how much a month it is now ....but they cover your car upto about £500 a breakdown.
Might be worth asking about it whilst your on the phone to them .
Again as car is already broken they might not cover you .

I realy realy hate hate hate the AA, in the 80s had a new car with AA cover, 2hrs to get me plus 3 hrs to get me relay home,, then a few years ago I thought I would give them another try, phoned them from just outside NANTWICH at 1720 I had left my sidelights on all day just wanted a jump start, they used a private firm called Mansfields, took the TWO and a half hours to get to me THEN could NOT give me a jump start as his booster pack was broke he was in 7 AND HALF TON truck but would NOT take his battery cover off,, it took ANOTHER TWO AND A HALF hrs to get me JUMP start, I am with autonational now.

as said mate plus they may just say think its your chain bud i will tow you to your nearest garage i dont think a snapt chain is going to show a code are you any good with spanners? why not lift the rocker cover off and see if the the chain turns at the top when you turn the crankshaft with a ring spanner if it moves try pulling at the chain see how much movement theres ie slack as it may just have jumped a tooth or 2 plus with all the bad snow etc and nearly xmass you will find it hard to get a garage to do it

Also been with the AA for many many years and cant fault them ever when I've had to call them out in the past. They are a little more expensive than other options, but worth it to me.

I don't have breakdown cover because I can't afford it at the moment but my dad is with the AA. When his Lexus GS300 took a funny turn last summer we called them out. We were near Milford Haven in South Wales but out in the middle of nowhere really. It would be 45 minutes before the nearest guy could get to us and we only had a rough idea where we were from a sat-nav that wasn't sure what kind of road it was we were on it was that quiet. He rang us to say he'd be a bit late and turned up 15 minutes after he should.

Lovely bloke, spent the next hour and a half diagnosing a fault with the alarm system and taking the front of the car to bits to unplug the siren so we could drive it back home. Could only recommend them.

AA all the way for me, they've come out for unusual things for me aswell, trying to get off stuck locking nuts, diagnosing faults. Top marks from me. Had experiance with RAC and thought their service to be sub standard.

That said, dont mention you've already broken down as it'll cost you an arm and a leg, sign up normally and wait 24hrs to call out.
