As above, anyone owned, driven or know someone who owns one? What do they think of it?

a lot of discos have electrical problems mate and they rot like hell so if your thinking of 1 look out for it, now a defender now thats a landy i have never owned a disco mate but knew a few lads that did and they soon got rid of them i have owned a freelander and it was ok on the snow never had it off road so couldnt say owned a frontera they were ok to and a shogun is ok on the snow always fancied a landcruser or a surf
It needs to be snow proof but not neccessarily good at off roading. I've liked the look of the Discos for a while now. I didn't think rust was so much of an issue on the series 2 models
My dad had a freelander so thats maybe one to look into but i'd like something a bit more tank like, not keen on Jap stuff tbh though
Er in dors had Disco TD300 1995 MODEL she had it 10 years all I had to do is
1 track rod end
2 tyres
2 power steering pumps
Think the TD5 is the BMW lump same as was fitted in the quite rare Omega 2.5TD. Most electrical problems used to be on the petrol Disco and Freelander until BMW took them over .
I did look at some of the end of line 300tdi models but they seem a tad agricultural to me (lol I know it's a land rover but I like my comforts)
The main worry I have is, is rust. I can handle mechanical problems myself no problems but rust is something I can do without
Yes we used call it the tractor, some of the very last had leather seats etc, only rust after 128,000 was at the reardoor/wheelarch area but never failed a MOT in the time she had it. Get used to it rolling about but at it never had to be plugged into a computer to sort it out
May have to think about looking at the foreign cars
Ssanyong Rextons, any good
It's not so much reliability, british made cars seem to have a bit of character unlike the mass produced perfect jap cars
Derrr i might be wrong but i had a 300 tdi & ain't most of the rot areas Ali!, The back door 'maybe'? steel but there's a fair bit of Ali on them, the ferrous/ bubbling around the rear door arches is actually water ingress from beneath causing the Ali to bubble/ go 'fusty', this is easily remed'ied if caught early by re-sealing/plastering the inner/under arch directly underneath both rear doors/arches with a tar type sealant as i did & was brill, stopped it dead!!. Although my disco was 1000000% clean! you could REALLY eat your dinner from anywhere in the car it was mint big style, it was an auto and great to drive, for high speed stability it wasn't a patch on the late frontera i had, Now the new disco tdiv6 i like & they hold the price well & are far & few apart at the mo so must be Ok!, id go for 1 & a runabout so keeping the 4x4 for weekends & such.
