Dunlop winter sport m3 or d3. They win all the european tests. If you can find some in the Uk I would also recommend Nokian, but I couldnt find any other than WR's which are all season tyres, but may be ok for the UK.

Mine are on a 2.8 auto and ive had no problems. Remember to set off in 3rd or 4th

The problem is finding "proper" winter tyres in the UK

I have two major recommendations: Both rated very highly but aren't as expensive as your michelins and continentals etc...

    1. Vredesteins! Outstanding in my opinion. Had some 19" Wintrac Xtreme's last year which were brilliant. Got some Wintrac 3's now on my wifes clio and again they cut through snow like a knife through butter. Although thats obvious when you see the razor like tread design!

    2. Nokians! Again a highly rated tyre and I have some 16" Nokian W+ Tyres fitted to the Signum this year. Not quite as good as last years set although I don't know if its due to the bigger tyre walls and the slight difference in width on the 16" rims!

I wouldn't recommend anything else. All of those have the 3 peaks sign on them which puts them in the top category of winter tyre. They also come in at a reasonable price too (although buy in summer as you will save around 50% on winter prices, or atleast in Germany)

Thats the equivelant of the site I use in Germany which is quite reasonably priced (although the prices have almost doubled now the snow has hit)
