    Default 2.2 DTi gearbox oil

    Evening.

The change on my car is getting pretty notchy now. More so with the winter. Probably never had the fluid changed in all its 200k miles. Now I THINK the gearbox model is F23 but I'm not sure. What's the best fluid for the box? Anything to put in to make it a bit smoother? Not sure how much I'll need either.

    Cheers.

It's the F35 in the 2.2 mate (f23 is in the 2.0dti) I used Castrol SMX S 75w-85 fully synth. Not cheap but makes the change smoother

Cheers dude. Did you put anything else in? I saw something in a thread recently about someone changing the gearbox oil, having an oil and something else recommended. Just want the box to last as long as possible. 3rd already feels a bit weak.

isnt 'mollyslip' or something like that meant to be a good additive ? I remeber being recommended it for my old 2.2 petrol.

You could put molyslip in mate, I didn't and it works fine just with the castrol. Try an oil change first and if it doesn't work then add some of this later

Is 2 litres enough? I'm not sure how much to order.

    *bump*

2 litres of the Castrol SMX you recommended John and a tube of the Molyslip bought. £30 for the lot. Going to get it done next week. Really felt tight this morning and clunky, was -10 C though.

    Will do.

The guy helping me do it put the same oil in his Lexus IS200 and said it made a hell of a difference compared to what it was. Almost 200k has probably knackered the fluid a bit.
