Arrow 2 Litre DTI - will not start - HELP!

    Hey guys,

On Sunday I tried to start the Vectra up which is a 2 litre DTI. First time it started, began coughing and then cut out. I then tried 3-4 times and it would not start. The engine turns over it isn't the battery etc.

So today I topped up the Anti-Freeze, put in some additional fuel via diesel can. After a long turn of the key it did start, i gave it plenty of accelerator to keep it ticking over but it cut out on me.

Lastly I have replaced some of the leak off pipes in case there were any letting air in etc.

Any ideas what could be the problem here?

    Thanks

Is the EML on ? If so read the codes.it could be a few things including EGR or maybe an air leak in fuel ?

turn the key to position 2, then back to 0 and remove key then move to position 2 again remove again , try it a 3rd time but this time turn it fully as if to start the car.

sounds like your fuel may be gelling / freezing

When you say you put some additional fuel in, how much?

Sounds like fuel starvation / gelling / freezing

Has the car been standing long in this freezing cold weather?

Thanks for your posts so far guys - the car had been on the drive during the cold weather for over a week. Someone mentioned to me that quite a lot of Diesel cars are having similar issues with the cold weather, its been on the news apparently that a lot of recovery firms are having to deal with this on a regular basis!

This won't help on a DTi
