    Default Will 245 40 18 tyres fit?

As above. I presume these will be fine on my standard elite? What if it was lowered by 30mm woul dthis still be ok?

I know about speedo issues etc

    Or should I just stick with 235 40 18?

The rim width im considering is 8j and the offset 42 if this makes a difference?

    Thank you in advance

As a guide, and if we consider 215/50/17 to be the standard tyre size, the recommended 225/45/17 is the tyre with the least overall circumference and radius. It's about 2% less than the 215/50/17 (which is why it looks smaller in the wheel arch), which means that for every 100 revolutions of the 215/50/17 the 225/45/17 has to revolve twice more over the same distance.

Conversely the recommended 225/45/18 are 2% larger, overall, than the 215/50/17s and therefore revolve only 98 times compared to the 215/50/17s 100 revolutions in the same distance covered.

The recommended 235/35/19s are about the same spec size-wise as the 215/50/17s.

Anything above or below these specs will have too much of an effect on the speedo reading.

Here's a good tool for checking correct tyre specs> http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

    Are those 245/35/20s ?

I'm presuming that you've had your speedo recalibrated?!

Those will under-read by nearly 4mph, compared to 215/50/17s, at 70mph, and that's not including the usual over-optimism of VX speedos!

I wouldn't want to be chancing the '77mph' absolute maximum on those!

    Nice wheels though.
