    Default 2ltr dti misfire

    Hi,
i've got a 2.0 dti vectra that misfires when its started, but only does it when car has been stood for a while (6 ish hours) doesn't matter if glow plugs on or not. There is a white cloud of smoke when this happens, unburnt diesel?

i have had starting issues, that don't seem too bad now (touch wood) replaced glow plugs and module, bleed back pipes and t peices, injector seals, fuel filt and seals, coolant temp sensor, battery, cleaned egr etc. but still got this misfire.

only happens when car has been stood and doesn't go away when reved. have ran injector cleaner through system and ran a full tank of ultimate diesel through but still no better. Got no codes when done diagnostic check.

Was thinking bout replacing fuel filter housing, but thought i'd check u guys for ideas first.
Thanks in advance for your help

    Jono

I'd be looking at changing the crank sensor mate for what they cost.

Wasn't sure if it was a little air in the system as only does it when been stood a while/ engine cold

wouldn't crank sensor throw a code and do it every time the cars started, could it cause a misfire?

Thanks in advance for your help

forgot to mention, misfire starts when cars been running for a few seconds and not straight away, and clears itself after a minute or so. cheers

crankshaft sesnor if its mis fireing, wont give you a code till it completely fails but will occasionly give you random codes like air mas incorrect or Cam shaft sensor (this is always funny as it doesnt have a cam sensor)

I have fitted a crank sensor today so will see how it is in the morning although did misfire when started after work. I have noticed performance is tempromental too. Any ideas would be greatly welcomed, apart from fuel filter housing, not too sure where to go next?

White smoke could be coolant. Does it use any coolant?

The fact it only does it after the car has stood a bit - coolant could be seeping into one of the cylinders via the head gasket. Possible, but unlikely. It only takes a drop of coolant to produce a nice cloud.

try disconnecting the coolant temp sensor and starting it as this is part of the glow plug circut if the sensor is faulty it may be over fueling once started
