Nose from 6th gear 2.2 sri direct

hi guys wonder if yous could help. My dad owns a Vectra 2.2 sri direct 55 plate. Its done 40,000miles and has developed a whine from 6th gear. It only happens while in 6th gear though. I have advised maybe a gearbox oil change might make a world of difference. Does anyone know if this is a common fault if if anyone has had the same problem? any help would be much appreciated thanks!

sounds like gearbox bearings or diff bearings starting to go is common on m32 boxes..

6th gear? I never realised the 2.2 direct had a six speed box.

is that common paul? cheers for your reply! old mans kinda worried if that will be covered under warranty! (arnold clark warrant) cheers mate!

rapala yeah they have 6 speed box's i have driven one that also has a 6speed!

If it is M32 6speed box then the bearing fault is quite common. Also applies to 1,3 diesel/1,6turbo M20 6speed box. If you have whining noise only with 6-th speed then you might get away with only 3 new bearings (all located inside box`s cover). If you replace the bearings please also check if the shafts inside the box are running freely with the new bearings. If not thenyou have to replace also the shims under bearings to get more clearence. Otherwise the box will fail again soon....
