    Default Car is poorly :(

Afternoon all and festive cheer etc etc...

I was wondering if anyone could help? These past few days my Vectra SRi 1.9CDTi [150] has become really sluggish to the point that even in first gear it feels like there is no power and it'll limp to about 2,000 rpm and then the turbo kicks in. Also, when I turn the engine off, instead of it just quietly shutting down, it rumbles down until it stops. Further to this, the engine management light (one with the spanner) came on the dash last week for about 2 minutes but then turned off.

I'm not really sure what the problem is but for some reason, I think it might have something to do with the oil, anyone got any ideas?

I would be looking at the boost sensor plus the peal test if it is applicable to your car's year, also do a search on sluggish as there are loads of posts on this and the fixes to go with it, it might help you.

I've tried this pedal test, I'm assuming you mean the one where you put your feet on the accelarator and brake and it's supposed to give you a code?

Well mine doesn't seem to give any code!

Firstly m8 it sounds as though the EGR Valve is playing up or there is a split vacuum hose (both common).

As for the rumbling on shutdown that sounds like the throttle body. When you switch the engine off the plate will close over momentarily then open again. Yours sounds like it's not doing that. If it were an '04 or '05 I would say you have a TB with the common fault but yours there may be a short or the TB mechanism is jammed open with oil - another common fault on these cars. However, it could be something more sinister like excessive oil being intruduced in the intake tract and the engine is running on it. This can be due to being over filled with oil or the turbo seals are breaking down.

Either way m8 get the codes read.

    Thanks Gazza.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to checking all these bits and bobs so I think a trip to the garage might be on the cards. Plus it's under warranty, so I would hope the garage will foot the bill if there's any work to be done.

In another twist in the tale... I've put a bit of diesel in tonight and for some reason it hasn't registered on the CD70 computer so its now saying my range is only about 5 miles! The petrol gauge has gone up but the light is still flashing. Could all this be a fuel filter issue?

A "bit" of fuel won't register on the fuel computer or gauge. You need to put "quite a bit more" in to wake them up so that they register correctly.

Interesting that you put diesel in but have a petrol gauge though.

Sorry, I meant fuel gauge. Force of habit.

I put a five litres in to get me to Asda so I can fill up so it should have registered, I've never had problems with it before.

The chances of 5 litres registering are **** all tbh chief, its nowhere near enough for the fuel gauge or trip computer to register it especially when the tanks empty.
