Farewell but not goodbye

As some of you may have read ive been looking at Trading in the vectra for an estate car. As ive already had 2 vec C's another wasnt on the list im afraid, so it was a toss up between a V70 and a 9-5 Estate. I found 2 very nice examples, and the dealers were doing their best to come up with the better deal to take my business. In the end, Last night i signed on the line for the V70. Its high mileage and older than the vectra but ive haggled 12months warranty and £1000 cash back on mine so overall i think i got a good deal.

Anyway, all this means that my enthusiasim for all things vectra will no doubt start to dwindle and as i have my Mk3 Astra Gsi as my project car, i think its best that I hang up my events manager polo shirt and call it a day as being part of the admin team.

Its been a hell of a rollercoaster since we started, weve had endless problems and issues to sort and being an admin can definetly take the fun out of your car. But its all worth while when you see things like our display at PVS or the way members muck in to help others out. I'll still be frequenting the forums as after owning 2 C's since 2002, i still think i can offer some occasional words of advice or support.

My official 'leaving day' is this friday which gives me a few more days to make sure everyone is sorted for Trax and then i'll be joining Alex as a Vec C god and a black username.

Thanks for the rollercoaster ride. Good times or bad, Vec C has been a massive part of my life (sometimes too big a part!) since june 2005 and i will miss my role but all things must come to an end sometime.

I think I speak for everybody when I say, I'm glad you're sticking around Andy, as this club needs members like you. I think the club will need you to walk the new Events Manager through certain tasks though.

The Volvo's a good car. The only issues we've come across at work are that you need to keep a regular check on oil levels and ensure you only ever use the proper oil. We filled ours with Castrol and it did the engines no good at all!

when you say proper oil, do you mean volvo supplied oil or something of the same viscosity?

Driving it last night i can see why you guys do so many miles in them, its built like a tank and is a brilliant cruiser (although only being a 140bhp petrol is a lot slower than the vectra). Cruising at 70 in the inside lane, it had the very funny effect of cars slowing down before they overtook me, and noone tried to push past me at roundabouts but just hung back. No idea why

and from what i've heard the oil has to come from volvo themselves, and its fairly pricey.

but apart from that, the V70's are great cars, very luxurious.

glad to hear you are sticking around - you've been a great asset to the club as a events oraniser and i'm sure you can still be as a mere mortal, albeit with god status!!
