Rear wiper won't be a fail mate, it's not part of the test

How comes they test the wipers then, not disputing you, but i thought wipers had to work and not leave streaks accross the window.

The front is part of the test, the rear isn't

They may give an advisory for it but as long as there are no sharp edges/bits hanging off, it'll be fine. Can't remember any of my cars ever having the rear wiper switched on during a test

Rear wiper is not a 'required' item, even if fitted, and is certainly nowhere near as crucial as the fronts when driving.

Also AFAIK offside door mirror is not mandatory either. I am old enough to remember when it was an optional extra on new cars

Thats incorrect. It only need one obligatory mirror and that can be n/s door/wing mirror or o/s door/wing mirror or an interior mirror. As long as at least one of them is fitted it will pass.

To the OP, an EML in itself is not a reason for rejection, however the tester shouldn't do an emissions/smoke test in case it causes further damage to the engine. For that reason it will fail because the emissions or smoke test hasn't been done. That is THE correct course of action in this situation, and is exactly what i would and have done.

Thanks. Didn't know that. Although in practice only offside door/wing mirrors have been optional on new cars.

Driving without a driver's side door/wing mirror would fill me with dread.
