    Default Squeeling from engine

    Hi Folks

I had a bit of a problem this mornign and since i was running late i had to bring the wifes car to work :S

When i started the car a squeeling noise came from under the bonnet, I dont recall this increasing in pitch with the engine revved, just the noise level. I have searched on the forum and the only thing remotely close to what it sounds like is
    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ight=squeeling

Is this what it is? If so, could i change itmyself and how much would it cost me to do so? I am not a mechanic, but do have good technical knowledge .....

If i cant change it myself, how much would a garage charge to change that does anyone know?

    Thanks in advance
    Tony

mucker this is very easy to change ,you cant really go wrong with it,before i looked in the link you provided i thought it was the same belt (could be wrong)but even if it isnt that it is the best place to start as it is the cheapest part

If it's just the belt then it's fairly straight forward, chances are though that the tensioner has seized (as often happens). It's only 2 bolts to remove to change it but one of them is a pain with being so close to the chassis leg.

I dont suppose anyone has a bit of a step by step do they?

Would make my life a lot easier. Also an approximation as to how much ?

Also, if the tensioner has just stuck, would some WD40 on it help unstick it? or would that just make the belt slip more?

    Thanks
    Tony

The tensioner is hydraulic so wd40 wouldn't really do much

The belt is about 10-15 quid and the tensioner 50 odd.

The aux belt is worth looking at, i use rubber & nylon lubricant to make sure its the belt thats squeeling, its available from halfords.
