    Tis true unfortunatly

but the upside is when peeps like my Mrs are looking at cars again, cars like that become very attractive as depreciation has already cut chunks off the price..

When i bought the GSi i only paid 40% of new list..and that was at 6 months old!! No-one wanted the auto..but i love it

Have a look at the previous car Renault Vel Satis 56% loss, Rover 75 58% loss, Mitsibishi Charisma 59% loss. OUCH! The results just make me want to keep my car more

I used to change my car every 18 months. I'm sick of taking a depreciation hit and will be keeping the Vec for a while (although I do weaken now and again ).

Truth is the Vec is such a good family car and mine has all the options, I don't see any reason to change.

£11995 for my Elite last august. It was 10 months old. Trade in price 1 year later, £8K is the best i got. £4K in one year is a lot and im sure next year it would be down to around £6K

Something to be said about buying older cars and running them into the ground, the repair bills still wouldn`t hit 4k a year !! I know the Astra will depreciate the same, Going to keep it though till it dies ...

If it's any consolation Paul, the Signum 2.0T Elite seems to keep it's price a good bit better than the 3.2V6 Elite (the one mentioned in that link). I was looking around at different Signums for somebody recently and the 2.0T was keeping it's price better than the others.

I seriously considered buying a 4-5 yr old car for work, sticking 35k on it in a year and then selling/PXing it.
I decided on the Signum at 1 yr old. In hindsight, although it's a good car apart from the recent troubles (£5k of engine work in last month) I think I should have gone that route.
The depreciation is as much as an older car would have cost, I wouldn't have a loan or expensive insurance and would have made money with my car allowance.
However, the heart rules the head sometimes doesn't it. I do like my Siggy and have NEVER owned a car that has so many people commenting on how good it looks.
