Default No/poor Acceleration under 2.5k revs

I've noticed over the last week or so that my '56 plate 150 CDTi 88k Miles, seems to be struggling to have any acceleration under 2.5k revs. It's at the point where i'm having to be very very sure when it's safe to go at roundabouts and junctions! Over 2.5k revs it's fine and pulls well.

I've got it booked in at my local dealer for a test drive from one of the mechanics so i'll see what is diagnosed then.

I've been reading about DMFs and clutch replacements etc.... How would I know if my problem might involve one of these issues?

Any reassurances greatfully received, and if it's going to cost me a bomb, tell me so I can be prepared!!!

Don't worry about the DMF and clutch (at the moment).
Do you have a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)? If it is blocked it takes full turbo (2000rpm +) to overcome the resistance - but his would normally give a fault code.

The other thing that springs to mind is the swirl flaps seized.
Look at the arrowed points under the engine cover. This bar should be in place connected to all 4 swirl flaps. If it is disconnected or very oily around there (last pic is a side on one of a failed flap - see how filthy it is with oil and soot escaping from the valve) it is stuck/failed and needs renewing..

I would agree with mozzer99, check the rod moves (if it is still connected). The valves may have seized open or the rod has fallen off with the valves in the open position.

Mines been doing the same this week.

As you said I'm having to wait for bigger gaps in the traffic too. I've run some Wynns EGR3 through mine to see if things are better.

Oddly mine only seems to do it when the engines cold. The bars in place, but havent seen if its moving freely.

I'm hoping its not them as my mate has just has his done, not cheap.

    Thanks Guys,

Rsocon, when you say not cheap what price are you looking at? How much is it to get the swirl flaps removed?

The inlet manifold needs to be replaced and it typically comes out at around £600.

I could be wrong but I think your cam belt needs removing at the same time, so if its due or nearly then you'd need to add that on.

Think my mate is paying just under a grand, but not sure what other stuff he's had done.

hmmmmmm, well the good news is that I was going to get my cambelt done when it's in the garage anyway. Shame it had to rear its head at this time of year!!

I need my car for work so i'll need to pay up whatever. Sadly since i've moved, it's much more hassle for me to get to my old mechanic pal. I have a main dealer 2 mins away, but if they're going to ask for nearly a grand I may have to take a day off work and pay my mate a visit.

Just read somewhere on here the cam belt doesn't have to be done, so might work out cheaper if you dont need it.

Think I'll need mine doing soon, might start saving.
