Talking cheapest alternator repair ever :D:D

for a couple of weeks now i have had a problem with my car where the battery would go flat over night. i replaced the battery and the problem persisted.i sat in the car two nights ago to see if there was a light staying on in the car causing the drain which there wasnt but i did notice that the battery light had came on bright on the dashboard with the keys removed which pointed to a diode fault. so yesterday i stripped the alternator down and got a new diode pack for the amazing sum of £1.24. and all sorted now car started fine this morning extremely chuffed as i was quoted £257 for a replacement.

well the service centre offered all servicable parts such as pulleys, casings, winding, bearings, diodes and such like. is far cheaper to repair than replace and took less than two hours to fit from start to finish. also been told all modern alternators dont have regulator packs and is regulated by the ecu is this right?

nice one. i thought mine was cheap, managed to get a brand new (not recon) denso off ebay for just over a hundred quid earlier in the year and fitted myself. This was after my second alternator failure on the car - first time i got the unit repaired but it only lasted 1 yr.

hopefully my repair will last but even if it doesnt and does only last a year al just repair it again been called old skool with the mechanics at work as they are slightly older and still work on the theory of repair rather than replace

Fantastic....mind you pictures (A brief write - up) of what you did would have been great for any of us less technical interested in tackling ours when necessary....in the the light of how much was saved...

    Cheers
