Default Is my Vec repairable :(

    Hi All,

My vec lost it on a bend yesterday, slammed near side wheel into high grass bank then ended up doing 360's for a few hundred yards smashing into the hedge / fence as i went

I managed to drive it home, but since the near side tyre gone flat

    Obvious damage :

    Smashed front bumper
Big dent in near side wing
    Side mirror gone
Dents and scratches all along the two near side doors
    Rear tail light
Mounting bracket to rear bumper hanging down
    End of exhaust missing
    Possible bent steel wheel
    Punctured tyre

    Its a 03 vectra 2.0dti (65k on clock)

Do you think the insurance will repair it or write it off

It drove me home 15 miles after accident i felt as it always has to drive - I just hope its fixable i dunno what im going to do if its not

If no other vehicles or property were involved, then get two quotes

Typically with a smashed bumper it means a replacement
The wing and doors may be repairable, usual technique is to drill holes and pull back into shape
The mirror would be a complete replacement
The rear bumper is held in place at the bottom by two clasps, easy and cheap to replace, however if the moulding on the bumper has snapped that is not so easy

The costs might be between £1100 and £1500
Compare to the residual value of the car (prior to accident)

Finally, make sure you are referring to the correct excess and there may be one for TPF&T claims and one for accidental damage
Also, claiming may affect your NCB

If the damage is substantial, then yes a new wing and door
However, with light damage these are often repairable; as above, the method is to simply drill small holes and pull it back into shape
Ironically, there isn't much cost saving

My preference would be part replacement, but with car of 7 years old a repair would be more appropriate

Sadly I agree Insurers are very dis-passionate in these matters.
