    Eek Big Clunk

Driving home from work yesterday I heard a huge clunk come from the drivers side front wheel?!. I've had the issue with the knocking sound previously, changed tracking rods and still problem persisted, dealers have looked and found nothing and it doesn't affect the driving of the car and has been like it for 2 years, but this huge noise that I heard concerned me a bit.

Still managed the 30mile trip home with only the intermittent knocking that I am used to. Just wondered if anyone else had had the same thing happen or give advice on what it might be.

    Cheers

Cheers Graham, I did think it might be a spring but thought it would have affected the driving of the car more if it was broken? or would that not be the case.

No not always. Could drive round for months with a broken spring and not relise.

My wifes Corsa had a annoying metal clang when driving. Could i find it, looked under the car, took spare wheel out and jack. Parcel shelf out, then put wife in the boot ( with the seats down ) and went for a short drive so she could pin point the excact point of the noise.

Some where near the rear wheel arch. So carpet came up seats out. still nothing.

After more hunting i checked under the car again, and on a detailed examination found the bottom part of the road spring had sheared off and was trapped inside the coil of the spring itself.

Removed the little piece and the noice went away.

eventually replaced the spring, well a garage did it anyway.

So have a closer look at your springs. Could be the same problem.

Seconded. I've had 3 snapped springs in the past and never noticed at all until I jacked it up

Hi there i have the same issue, but the difference is that i fitted new springs a few weeks ago then the noise appeared changed the track rod end and drop link but still there also have looked at wishbone but all ok there next thing to try is the strut mount bearing at the top, the reason i say this is that i only get this noise then the weight is lifted from the drivers side ie when i go over dump and the car rocks side to side of when i speed off and the car lifts at front i get the noise aswell so am thinking there is play in the bearing what do you's guy's think

Possibly worn suspension/ARB bushes that have not been diagnosed correctly. What you do not want it to be is the subframe bushes!
