Default new job offer, i need advice!

well guys i work 5-9 in O2 smartphone customer services and i have done for 2 years now since i was at uni, then i graduated with my HND in tech support etc.

just now i am on about 7.5K a year plus my working tax credit.

i went for an interview with XOS (xerox) where i go out to sites and install setup's for clients they sell the equipment to etc etc, they offered 18K starting plus commision on each succesfull install plus 40P per mile fuel for the first 833 miles per month then 25P after that.

they dont pay over time so if im on a job till 7pm i dont get paid for it as they expect any job to be completed without leaving due to the time, so i will be all over the place with jobs but certain training at first near the Fort in glasgow.

The problem with the fuel thing is i dont have a credit card which would mean the fuel comes out my wages each month and is then re-imbursed which i dont like..

    my questions are.

Do the working conditions sound fair?
is any one in a similar job?
do the working conditions sound fair?

it starts in jan so they are looking for an answer soonish.

My dad used to work for Xerox,.. unusual that they don't provide a vehicle for this. Is it still Rank Xerox or just Xerox?

    Vehicle : Golf 7

    Trim : GTD

    Engine : 2.0 TDI 184PS

    Year : 2014

    Mileage : 40000

I thought it was 40p/mile for the first 10,000miles and then 25p after? But that was with my previous employer. I wouldn't know for certain that was the case.

But generally that is the way it works. With a company car your tax would be higher and you would only be entitled to 12p/mile.

Not much experience in this, but sounds reasonable, as it goes. I've personally always avoided jobs with commission, as in my day they usually had low wages. Important thing is how do you feel about it? Xerox is a well known company, been around a while.

I'm a field based consultant for a large IT company and since I've been doing this (for several companies) I've always had to lay out the fuel and then claim it back although I can put in claims as often as I like so i don't go without too much for too long.

I would say get a credit card purely for fuel purchases, buy the fuel on it, when your expenses come through pay them onto your "fuel card" and then you're never out of pocket from your wages. Only works if you only use the card for fuel, don't use it for other stuff.

I looked at getting a Shell fuel card but most of these places invoice weekly which is no-where near enough time to get your expenses back to pay it with.
