Help Please, 2.2 DTi Common Fault?

Hi all,

During the last few trips in the Vectra I've noticed what could only be described as a vacuum noise coming from the back of the engine (bottom of the windscreen, while sat in the car). I haven't heard it from the outside yet to work out where it is coming from, and still can't open the bonnet until I sort the cable/latch out.

I have searched the forum as I think there used to be a sticky thread about the 2.2 DTi engine, and a common fault.

It's getting worse as I drive it, (worse being 'louder'), but it doesnt feel like I am down on power (this could be 'cause I spend most time behind the wheel of a 69PS Caddy Van loaded to its maximum weight). The Vectra is just about to hit 80k miles.

I am hoping this is just a split pipe somewhere, and should be fairly simple/cheap to fix. Any help much appreciated!

Sounds like the wastegate solenoid that sits by drivers top strut,they do make a noise but not all the time

This is making a serious amount of noise. It sounds like someone is doing the vacuuming, while the turbo is doing its work. Lift off, and it stops the noise completely.

Edit: Just did a search on "wastegate solenoid" and found some useful threads which seems like identical symptons & solutions! Thanks bigmac for the help!
