    Default Woodpecker in the dash?

Has anyone come across this one? When I turn on the ignition (before I start the engine) It sounds light there's a large woodpecker behind the dash near the heater controls, it lasts for about 6 seconds.. When I start the engine it happens again.

When I press the air recirculate button it happens again but not as loud.
    Any ideas?

    Phil

It does sound like the recirc servo to me.Does it do it when you open the door with the remote, and if you press the air recirc" button. If it does. As you say it does.. I,m afraid you have lost one or more of the teeth on the recirc" servo, it is a common thing on the vectra. Do a search for "air recirc servo" there is a lot of information should you be unfortunate to need it.

Thanks for that quick response, I've not noticed it happening any other time than when the Ignition is switched on. I'll check the posts you've mentioned. On the positive side, it's always a good conversation starter!!

you've broken a gear in the air recirculation servo motor.

it sits behind the glove box and cost £65 to buy a new one from vaux.

theres a how 2 somewhere in the how 2 section.

Thanks for the info gents, at least it's not too bad cost wise.
Interesting that the Saab does it. The Saab 1.9 has the same engine as the Vauxhall, maybe it has more Vauxhall parts as well...or maybe the Vauxhall has more Saab parts!!!

tell me about it, he called me over to ask what the noise was... I wasn't sure. but trust me I found out 2 weeks later on my own car....lol

I was wondering if the gear could be re-engineered, sell them for a £10 and make a fortune.

I used to work for an engineering company, shame I dont anymore.
