Default Oil leak? Please see my pics!

Please have a look at my pics, I'm suspecting an oil leak somewhere around the area where the arrow is pointing.

Would this be a common issue? The engine is a 2,2 direct petrol on a Signum.

It's hard to get a closer look without removing the "filter-box", but maybe I should do it?

    Hope someone can guide me.

Also: when should the belt (also seen on the pics) be replaced? Guess waiting for it to snap is a bad idea...

Not familiar with the 2.2 so cant say what the leak is.
However as the belt has been contaminated it will need replacing once the oil leak has been sorted. Also clean all the pulleys with a degreasent. Main issue will be with slipping and the oil will cause it to break eventually but should be more of an inconvenience than catastrophic as it only drives auxilliary components such as alt, PAS and air con.

Arrow appears to be pointing to the alternator which is not oil fed.
Best bet is to remove the air box for a closer look.

Thanks for the answers sofar. Is it a big operation to replace the front crank seal?

I have already thought about replacing the belt, and now it's perhaps even more critical, even though the engine wouldn't break down if the belt snaps.

So: is this a huge job? Is it even possible to replace the seal without deassembling the whole engine...?

Don't judge me I'm quite good ín the garage actually, even though I seem to be a total newbie based on the posts..

    Thanks for answers so far.

Please let me know if this is rather easy or does it require special tools?

should be just like changing the belt then just when you have it striped down remove the pully on the end of the crank then pop out the seal clean area up refit new seal they just force fit

ok so this seems pretty straightforward then. the seal should basically be possible to pull out with e.g. a screwdriver or something, and the new one just has to be pushed in? Am I right?
