i would check the switch, and all the ceiling roses that are not working.if its 2 plate, all the lives go to the switches, and the neutrals go to the roses.if its 3 plate, all the live and neutrals go to the roses, with a live and switch wire down to the switches.please make sure all circuits are turned OFF,when working on electrics

Looks like maybe a loose connection in a ceiling rose.

Unscrew the landing light fitting and make sure all the wires are nice and tight to the binding posts.

Doubt it'd be a 2 plate circuit as these are mainly used for exterior lighting and is a nightmare to use this system of wiring in a domestic lighting circuit. It is more likely to be a 3 plate system so as others have said you can undo the ceiling roses and make sure there's no loose wires anywhere. But as graham says, do be careful

lighting is a loop, one loose fitting wont stop the rest working. It takes power from both sides of the loop. Circuits are usually split so some lights still work upstairs and downstairs when 1 lighting circuit goes. IE front / rear of the property split, or right & left side so both up and down share a breaker. try swapping the 6 amp breakers in the box with each other and see what works & what stops. I wonder if an RCD has failed.

This is the best way i thought i could show what is working and what isn't.
I've checked the wiring in the roses and they are all tight and good connections.
    Kind of stuck now!
Also, all of upstairs lights work.

swap the breakers - its going to be a process of elimination to trace the fault - nice drawing BTW

stuball.i do not recommend working on your consumer unit,if you have never done it before.i personally think you have a break in a wire somewhere, either a switch, lamp holder or junction box

OK then, last question then. Is it dangerous?
I can't switch off the breaker to the lights for the night as the smoke alarm will beep all night.
