    Default Knackered alternator and EML

Alternator went on the car this week and although I had a spare (so not too much hassle!) it made the error light come on (car with spanner).

I was hoping this would clear after so many clean starts but is still showing when ignition is on.

Does this go away or is it a trip to someone for an expensive reset?!

Sure the EML light clears automatically after 10 days, or if the battery is disconnected for half an hour or so.

40 'no fault' restarts should clear it, apparently.

Is the alternator you fitted specifically for the Vec C??
There are many out there that are retailed by major manufacturers as suitable and give this fault.
Basically the Vec C specific one has a line to the ECU.
    Whilst the 'generic' item doesn't.
It will work perfectly as an alternator but flag the EML as it does not feed the ECU.
This feature was so that the EML would alert the driver to an issue before the alt failed, however in reality it does not work as many will know; the alt fails without any prior warning.
Get the code read, cant remember what code this gives but its something to do with the 'L' line
