    Default Is VXR dead?

I had an interesting discussion at my dealers yesterday, they are getting the impression from the meetings they go to at Vauxhall that the VXR brand will be slowly wound down.

Vauxhall havent said this is happening, but it is the impression they got, look at the facts though and it makes you wonder.

Zafira B VXR - Zafira C, no VXR
Meriva A VXR - Meriva B, no VXR
Insignia VXR - At Facelift, rumours are the VXR will be dropped.

With this and the fact that GM Europe Boss Nick Reilly has publically stated that he wants to see Vauxhall/Opel as 'Low Emmsion' brands!

Reminds me of the mid 90's when all the GSi's were dropped in favour of Astra and Corsa Sports!

Really hope this is not the case.

I know the Meriva and Zafira VXR's will be replaced by powerfull but more understated GSi models, but have VXR run it's course?

Personally, I think that a classy well specced GSi range with decent power will be more appealing than the balls out VXR.

    What are your thoughts?

By the way, the latest rumour is the Insignia VXR WILL be replaced by an equally powerfull but less in your face Insignia GSi. To fall more in line with Audi's S4, which is differnt to look at but only if you know what your looking for.

Nick Reilly has also been saying that he wants GM Europe to get back into motorsport.

Yes I have known Stuart for many years. He told me about the GSi models a good while back.

I have heard a few times of the GSi brand making a comeback, how this will affect the VXR brand though I don't know. According the the caption of the pic below there is a possibility the new three door Astra VXR could be called GTC instead (I assume that is the Opel equivalent of GSi).

Going low emission? So what of the new Insignia based Calibra Coupe, dealer says in showroom 2012, allegedly going to have something like a Monaro engine available.

'GTC' is Opel-speak for 'Sport Hatch' ; VXR is 'OPC'
