Default Help on a new car

Been thinking about getting a new car next year, but really can't decide on what to get. I commute to work which is a 42mile round trip 5 times a week, but looking for some more power and a car with a half decent fuel economy, so far been considering:

    Audi A4 2.0T S-Line
    Audi A4 3.0 TDi S-Line
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 or 9 must be a saloon cant stand the hatchbacks.
    Mini Cooper S 1.6
    Mercedes C-class the newer shape

I know the lancer is not the best bet on fuel but for the sheer pleasure your probably get out of it, and to be honest driving to work in rush hour I cant really go anywhere quick and it would be off the turbo most of the time. Also was curious how the diesels are in Audi's and Mercs especially with the vectra fear of the DMF.

Its really just an idea I've been pondering and to be honest I do like the vectra just wish it had some more power, also may be working more local mid next year so we're see but any advice welcome.

The Evo won't be "not the best on fuel", it'll be downright rubbish on fuel, plus it'll probably have to be 99 RON, and add to that servicing every 4500 miles, and you have yourself a very expensive commute.

If you're looking at mercs, Evos and Audis, you should forget the mini, not because its no good, Ive never driven one and Im sure its a great car but its not really in the same league as an s-line.

Fuel for an Evo will be a real killer!! 21mpg is the official number for the Evo 9 and a shocking 15mpg for the evo 10 but as you'll already know, what the manufacturer lists and what the car achieves in the real world are 2 very very different things!

Ive got a mate who's driving a A4 3.0 TDi S-Line and its an amazing machine! It doesn't scream F**K YOU like the Evo but thats no bad thing as I'm sure you'd get bored of people thinking your 10 inch wide exhaust is in compensation for other areas.

3.0 TDi gets my vote but I do like the refinement of a merc.

Cheers Jezzy, didnt know servicing would be required as frequent as that and I'm not the most hands on sort of person, would much rather a garage did it. Some of the BMW's are fairly nice too, but not really sure what I'm looking for with those never had one or know anyone that has.

Cheers, the step up from the 2.0tdi seemed a good option alot more power and amazing on mpg compared to my Vectra. I've sort of rushed in on my last cars and sacrificed things that I actually wanted like parking sensors, leather, the right engine etc.

If the 3.0 TDi in the A4 is the same one as in the A6, then it's got 230 BHP as standard and can be remapped (stage 1) to 280, so that would be my choice.

I may keep the vectra until next summer and see if I do relocate job wise then that will probably put my mind at rest on the car, is there any common faults with the diesels for audi's?
