Default intermittent dial failure - HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Peoples

First things first i'm new to this so go easy on me :-)

I have a vectra 2.2 turbe diesel Elite. about a month ago this problem started and is slowly getting more regular.

when driving the speedo and rev counter just dip down to the start and then (most of the time) boost back up again like somethings just caused it to trip slightly. sometimes though they'll stay down and then 3 seconds later the stereo will turn off. whilst there down the car drives fine but wont let me indicate or do most things electric. if i turn the engine off and straight back on again whilst moving it kicks back to life!! (well until the next time)

I've been observing it to see if i can figure it out as dont want to hand it in to be fleeced. even whilst its working fine i've noticed the temp gauge doesn't move! although yesterday after this tripping out 4 - 5 times it started working again and didn't trip out again for the rest of the journey.

    GGGRRRRRRRR - HELP PLEASE

i thought poss faulty cluster unit but thought i'd consult you cleverer peoples first.

    Cheers Guys

    Dan

Check the connections on the abs plug under the bonnet. Make sure it's clean and tight.

Always check the cheap things first. The abs plug is just as likely to be the fault causing the OP's symptoms.

The ABS plug is under the bonnet. Looks like a big SCART socket. If you do a search for ABS plug, there are photo's which point it out.

And yes, very true about checking the cheap things first... i guess having been hit 3 times with CIM failure, then i am a bit bias towards it being the culprit.

The CIM sits behind the steering wheel where the stalks and ignition key slot is. Its a central module which interacts with the rest of the cars electronics.. far too complicated for me to understand the ins and outs, but thats the way i understand it.

If it does turn out to be that at fault, its a dealer job if you want to get it fixed in a hurry... and sorry to say.. not cheap.

But check the ABS first, fingers crossed thats the problem.
