Exclamation Have Vauxhall Changed Their CDTI Engine Oil Policy?.

Booked my Vectra in for it's annual service in January. As it's having a full service this time round, there were one or two things I needed to point out to them to make sure that it was noted on the job sheet. When I asked about fully synthetic oil and any extra charge etc,(they put 10-40 semi in it last time),she told me that they had changed their oil policy and now routinely put in 0-30 fully synthetic as standard.Has anyone else heard of this?. FELIXX.

AFAIK VX recommend 5W-30 for all engines, a fact which is referenced in the User Manual, with 10W-40 for top-up between services.

However each dealer seems to have had their own 'take' on it and many have used 10W-40 as it is cheaper.

Interestingly my dealer is now using 5W-40 on all cars it services.

Certainly, the use of 10W-40 for pre-facelift EcoFLEX extended service intervals (up to 20,000 (30,000 for diesel) miles/2years) was not recommended.

Essentially any oil that conforms to the Longlife 'LL' specifications indicated in the User Manual will be OK.

Many dealerships charge full price but cut costs by using "any old oil"

When the servicing for my car was being paid for by VX, I asked the dealership to confirm what oil they had used
They confirmed they had used 10W40 semi synthetic
I phoned VX and got them to confirm in writing that GM-LL specification should have been used
On my return the dealership advised the oil was acceptable, but I phoned VX whilst there and they were instructed to replace the oil
The records for my car were then updated, "Use GM-LL specification oil only"

The difference was quite clear from that service onwards, the service indicator increasing from about 18K miles to about 25K miles
