Default Vectra C Facelift, faulty front fog lights glass

Hi Guys, i have a 2008 vectra SRI CDTI 150 Hatchback. During this cold weather and snow i put the fog lights on once, then i checkd today and noticed that on of them is cracked!!

I know i have not hit anything.

Whwn i used to work at vauxhall im sure they said this is a fault on these vectras, is that correct?

Would this be covered by the manufacturer? warranty has expired. cheers mike

Not a common problem as far as I'm aware, you may have had a stone hit it and crack it. Only way to fix is to replace the whole foglight as the glass is bonded on and can't be replaced. Best bet is to check on ebay for a spare.

Ok thanks, i just remember at vauxhall, when there was cold weather all the sales cars that were being used always had cracked fog lights and the guys said it was a fault on them vectras. It looks like an internal crack as there is not ridge when i run my nail over the cracked area and there is no sign of a chip or damaged , just a clear crack from top to bottom.

No I have the same problem Apparently the Astra's have a common fault with their fog light glass cracking.. cant remember if its a recall though. I have wondered if its the same part? Do you have the round fogs with the chrome rings also?

Ok... Nah i just have the standard SRI Fogs on the facelift. think its only the signums that have the chrome surround and the vxr vectra. Its a bit crap that they crack as i imagine they are not cheap to replace?

How much do you think the part will be and the labour time to do the job?

I was quoted over £100 each (iirc), from vauxhall. Found them on eBay for around £50 each. It's easier to remove the bumper to fit, so budget for 2 hours labour.

the problem is owing to the build up of condensation in the lamp unit sometimes its a quantity of water present that then when it freezes expands and cracks the lamp unit .... although its a design flaw you wont get it under warranty which is a sad state of affairs ...

they did release a modified snorkle type kit to help remove the moisture and condensation and it should be standard on the facelifts and later pre faces ......but you still see condensation present on these as well so it makes you wonder

0-Large smile ......every time it's driven

Ok thanks for the reply. Thats the odd thing though, the fog lights were immaculate, with no condensation or water in them at all. Never seen them with condensation in either.

I dont want to see the fog light cracked but then again doesnt seem any point in replacing it as will prob just crack again, vicious circle!!

No sign of a snorkel kit fitted to my facelift.

I bag of dessicant (moisture absorber) stopped my from condensating up.
