Am I being taken for a ride?

The garage I took the car to for the springs replacing told me that their supplier was listing 2 different front springs for the 2.2dti SRi, a standard SRI spring and a lowered SRi spring. including fitting the standard would be about £150 but the lowered would be around £175. Since then he's contacted me to tell me that the drive shaft boots have split and need replacing at a cost of £112.

He told me the car should be ready at 4.30pm but when I phoned he's told me that the supplier has delivered the wrong parts and it wont be ready till tomorrow. While I was on the phone I asked him to confirm to overall cost of the work and parts. He said it was the more expensive 'lower SRi springs' that I needed and the overall bill is £298. if the boots are costing £112 that means the springs have jumped to £186!?

Is he talking out of his arse and just taking me for a mug?

ring a different dealer and find out how much the boots will be on their own and find out how much the springs are

no such thing sri springs are one size 15 mm lower than a standard spring

I would have thought so, as I thought all sri's had lowered suspension, but on a recent thread it came out that some don't, so maybe yours is one of those.
Most people that have springs go seem to change to eibach, there seems to be an ongoing problem with VX springs

so would that make it a standard spring then if it is it sounds like they need a shock find prices from other dealers and ask them about it

The suppliers will be listing non sri and sri springs. Every motor factors is the same

OP didn't say he was using a main dealer

Sorry, should have given more details, its not a dealership, its a small garage just down the road from work. We decided to use them because they helped us out recently and seemed like a good honest bunch.

Something else they told me in the same phone call was that the front discs and pads are shafted and I'd be lucky to get 500 miles out of them and they'd cost £140 to replace. I said no as I know I can do them myself! I've thought for some considerable time that the brakes weren't up to much and intended replacing them for drilled & grooved but decided as cash is tight to wait to see if they got flagged up on the MOT last month, but they didnt so though I'd leave it till the new year and sort it then.
