we went for a bit of a play as he wanted to have a play with his new stop watch (his grand son races cycles) so we did some 50 to 70 mph in THIRD GEAR times,, holding 50 in third for 5 seconds then go, he did mine I did his, then we swaped cars, two grey haird old men playing with a stop watch perhaps we should grow up.

ANYWAY mine 50 to 70 in third 4.2 sec, 4,5 sec, 4.4sec,

his 6.8 sec, 7,2 sec, 7.0 sec,

so whats your do?

They are actually good figures to be honest mines won't do that. Judging by your m8's times and the brochure:

er,, no not 4 gear, but his vec has higher overall gearing than mine, both 1.8s his a vvt has always felt slow, he is doing 2700rpm at 70 mine 3100rpm at 70, just been looking in some WHAT CAR road test's my times do seem low, but the time I quoted are average of 6 runs with me on the watch and 6 with mate on watch, I can not get the brochure to show although it has gone onto desk top???? can you tell me the times please.

ive done a few 50-70 in fifth with 5 seconds being the fastest.

Kamar - yours is a diesel at a guess. You dont need high rpm as the torque is much higher. The gear ratios are a trade off between performance and economy, At 70mph your mate is using less fuel.
