Default Smells like an old transit

I've noticed in the last couple of weeks that the 3.0 CDTi Siggy has started to smell more and more like a diesel, if that makes sense.
It used to have that sort of chemical smell that catalysed diesels tend to have, but lately there's definitely a pong like an old transit van from the exhaust. I thought it was Asda diesel, but the last two tankfuls have been BP, and it's still doing it.
Is this a sign of impending massive expense, or am I worrying over nothing? Fuel consumption is the same as ever, and there are no warning lights.

    Thanks, Phil

Just get it nice and hot and give it a good blast down the motorway at high revs. Blow all the crap out. That sorted mine

Might be the anti-waxing winter formulation of diesel contributing to that as well I wonder?

it could be something blowing exhaust fumes under the bonnet and being drawn into thecabin via the pollen filter drain hole, just like my 1.9cdti has started doing ovre last month. In my case it is a leaking manifold.

Don't think it's that -it only smells outside the car.
As far as I'm aware the 3.0 doesn't have the manifold "issues"

Dont the fuel companies put an additive in diesel in the winter to stop it waxing?

Defo try a hard run at high revs to try clear it first. You don't have to speed just do it is second!

Hi, the 3.0 cdti has a dpf filtter and i think a cat !
maybe its not heating up the exhaust gases !
or could just be an injecter fault !

His is a 2004 model so i doubt it has a dpf as my 03 plate didn't. Only the euro 4 engines have them.

I still wonder if it's the winter additives that are smelling more than normal.
