    Default Wheel Bearings-cause trouble?

Hi all, i was driving very slowly in traffic (5mph ish) and happened to turn the radio off to hear an awful sound. My immediate reaction was that i was dragging my exhaust down the road!!! Sounded just like something had fallen down under the car. There is nothing there so i'm wondering if it could be the wheel bearing? Its defo traceable to the rear drivers side wheel type area, and i was just wondering if the wheel bearings (like the shocks) are known for being abit poo?? The cars milage is 54k.

Sorry for the long story folks. Thanks for looking!

    does it drone??

if it's knocking then it may well be bushes..if it's a constant drone that varies with speed, then it's a wheel bearing..

It seems to drone, lots of noise at all levels, but it just started knocking on friday. My shocks are gone and i'm doing those in the week, but i'm wondering whether to get wheels bearings and bushes done too. What bushes are likely to have gone?
