    Default Accident help

Somebody went into the back of me last night the have admitted fault. I got a call from his insurer offering to sort everything out and provide me with a replacement car without making a claim with my insurer. I have declined initially advising them I would discuss it with my insurer first. Is it worth me taking up their offer or will I end up regretting it?

you have nothing to gain and everything to lose, HOW do you realy know if the call was from the other guys insurer, the terms of you policy may forbid this.

Always advise your insurer of any incident. When this happened to me, i took my car to the local VX bobyshop and let them sort it all out. They handled the whole thing, talking to insurance, hire car etc and i must say, made a stressfull situation easier.

I asked them for their I made them confirm some security details 1st. I was thinking the same. If it all goes wrong it'll be a ball ache to sort.

Follow your insurer's claim procedure, do not accept any offers from the other party's insurer. For minor 'non-fault' claims it is highly likely your insurer will sell your claim to a 3rd party non-fault claims company. This will mean no claim is recorded against you.

Cheers everyone. I'll leave it with my insurer and go from there. Thanks again

Sounds an odd way to deal with it, why would they want to cut your insurers out of the loop? Aren't you obliged to report accidents, damage claim or not?

Can we please keep the voodo mysticism to a minimum? Please?

Most insurers will offer to repair the 3rd party's car if their own customer is to blame. Fact.

Why do they do that? Because they want to repair your car at a sensible cost - i.e. standard bodyshop labour rates and either a courtesy car provided to you by that bodyshop, or (if you insist on a car which is a similar size/cost as your own) then a hire car. What they don't want is for you to go to an accident management company who will use the same bodyshop but come out of it with double the repair costs and the same hire car that you would have got but charged at 3 times the rate. You don't get anything better out of it, but the accident management company inflate all the costs in order to make a profit. That extra cost gets passed on to the guilty party's insurers, and then onto all their customers' premiums.

You need to inform your own insurance company that an accident has occurred, but whether you use them or the 3rd party's insurers for the repairs is up to you. Your own insurer will confirm that there is no such baloney as "if you use the other insurer for your repairs you're in breach of your policy yada yada".
