Fuel consumption

I have just had a new timming belt fitted to my 1.9cdti 150. The car starts and runs as before without any hesitation. I have however noticed a drop in my fuel consumption. If the timing is out would this cause poor consumption even if the car still performs as it used to.

The very cold weather will cause worse fuel consumption. It's very unlikely the timing is out.

IMHO it is quite easy to be a tooth out on the timing if you don't use the timing tools or are meticulous in keeping the original settings.
My car had a belt fitted by a local garage (way before I owned it) and it ran quite well (although DPF kept clogging).


On replacing the belt with a timing kit, I found the original set up to be a tooth out and had been for 60k miles.......Very lucky I didn't keep the original settings and repeat the mistake.
