Default Is there an alternative to HID's?

Driving home from tesco tonight the wife commented on how crap our lights were. I'd read on here that the vectras headlights weren't that great and explained to her that alot of members on here have HIDs. I'm a bit hazy on the legality of them.

    Will they pass an MOT?
Will the police pull me for having bright lights?
What are the alternative to HIDs?

    As above!

Just get 4300k or 5000k, some say 6000k are also OK with slight blue tint. Go any higher than that and the colour becomes noticable and then you'll get trouble from plod.

I had a look at the how2 section and it looks a little fiddly. Having said that I saw the on HIDs-direct http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/50w-vau...its-p-445.html has anyone fitted them? Is it really plug n' play? How easy was it to fit?

Also as per the thread title is there an alternative to HIDs? Are there brighter bulbs that I can just swap over with the old ones?

I fitted a set to mine, its easy enough, just remember to get the cancellers which were about an extra 15 quid as well or will show up an error and will not work properly.

I thought the ballast does that? It says in the link I shouldn't get the light fail warning.

If you simply order a set for the Vectra from wherever your choice is HID-direct HID4us etc etc the kit will inlude the cancellers needed to be sure they are working correctly.

I would urge that you have the beam adjusted before fitting as they are all set very low so the throw of light is really disgraceful until reset, then the stock H7's will be working (badly) but at their best so when you fit the xenon's the difference will be even more noticeable.
