    Default paypal dispute

Hi guys I was wondering if any one can advise, On Oct 14th I sold a mobile phone on Ebay, the buyer paid via paypal, I posted the item the same day using the post office special delivery method ie recorded. On the 16th I emailed the buyer and said if he was happy could he post feedback to enable paypal to release funds which he did and so I got my money, since then there has been no contact until today! I have a paypal email saying buyer has made a claim for refund as he cannot recall recieving item (he says he buys a lot from ebay),bearing in mind at no point has he contacted me to "enquire about the whereabouts of item" he has waited 40 odd days then went straight to paypal. My problem is due to the time that has elapsed I no longer have the proof of postage. Without this it would seem I will have to refund the buyer,my prob is it seems like a total con.

so he leaves feedback then claims to have not received/cant recall receiving the item. put this to paypal and see what happens. seems a bit dodgy to me

If you sent it special delivery, the recipeiant has to sign for it on arrival. Go to the post office where you sent it, explain the situation, give them the date and roughly when you sent it, they should be able to dig up the record as they put an address against it.

As said above, something aint right if he leaves feedback, 40 days elapses and now he is stamping his feet...

thats what I thought mate but I have been to post office and they dont keep details! that surprised me tbh but without the tracking number they say they cannot help. The annoying thing is I only threw it away last week but to be fair I never expected any problems after such a long time.

I have had this problem. I lost the proof of postage and The Post Office were able to track delivery from the recipients postcode.

Did you not track the parcel on the Post Office website and any point? If you've not cleared the cache on your PC it may still be saved on their site.

Did you post it using the ebay site and paypal? I always do this that way the buyer gets an email saying postage has been done and paypal logs the transaction

    Hope you sort it out

this is the reason i wont use ebay/paypal as why should we have to send out our items for the winning bidder to report to paypal as they know how the system works that they have a problem then paypal just stop the funds its very unfair the winning bidder gets the goods and a refund

Like most things, it depends on the post office. They probably can do it, and do it quite easily, getting them to do it is a different matter.

I always use my local post office where they know me, and would expect they would help should a situation like this arise.

The other habit i have got into is sending the recipient the tracking number, that way you also have it on record either via email or ebay message.. Not much help for you at this time mate, but something to bear in mind in the future.

Might be worth calling their customer service line and seeing what they say... you "might" get lucky if the operator is on a promise tonight!
