    Default vectra c 2003 2.2 dti thermostat

hi guys, can anyone tell me if when my engine is cold ie. when the thermostat is closed, should the coolant still flow into the expansion tank? i dont think it should untill its hit 90 deg or whatever its set to, so think its knackered, ive looked for a new thermostat and temp sender but can only seem to find one for the vec b 2.2 dti, as far as im aware the vec c 2.2 dti uses the same motor as the vec b 2.2dti so im guessing it will also use the same themostat temp sender and housing, am i right

Mine has a new 'stat in it and does circulate coolant through the bottle even from cold. I'm guessing it's diverted somewhere else in the cooling system. I don't think the Vectra B ones fit though.

ok, my old astra g 1.8 16v had dodgey thermostat and coolant flowed all the time but temp guage never worked replaced the whole unit and it only flowed when the coolant got to about 80 deg, i guess different engine different set up, no longer sure if thermostat is knackerd but quite sure the sender unit has issues as glow plugs only work at about 2 deg c so struggles to start on cold mornings unless its really really cold , any one know at what temp the glow plugs should start to work? cheers guys

My glowplugs come on about 5deg or below. Mine does struggle to start at 6degs+ though lol. There's a whole thread of people with similar issues at the moment, no one thing seems to cure it. I'm starting with a new thermometer myself next week.

Ecu update sound good, what are the benifits and what does it cost? I did see a post about a guy who figured out you could add a resistor to the circuit between the temp sensor and the glow plug relay (or some thing like that!) To make the glow plugs kick in at a higher temp, did nt pay too much attention at the time as i was trying to solve a injector seal issue, sounded like a good idea tho, think i ll try and find it again! It does seem like this a very common issue,Is there such a thing as a vec c 2.2dti that will start any where any place in any weather as you d expect? I thought i had a bad one but starting to think ther all the same lol...

My 2.2dti starts first time whatever the temp (touch wood).

Went out this morning at 6 and it started first time @ minus 4.5 degrees.

(Still sounds like a tractor though)

Just done the thermostat and what a difference!! Now left to idol it hits 92deg as it should befor stat opens, drops slightly when on the move and you can tell the stat is doing its thing by keeping an eye on the temp gauge, when im on the move temp drops slightly to about 85deg as soon as i slow up it rises to 92,befor it took ages to warm up at all and when it did it only got to a steady 75deg, got my 50+ mpg back and a noticable gain in performance, if in doubt whip it out and stick a new one in cost me 42bucks in total and was a 20 min job easy!
