    Default Badly smearing windscreen

Just got a new (to me) car, all is going well . . ..except in the rain the windscreen is terrible, I can hardly see out of it.

There seems to be some sort of wax residue on the windscreen causing it to smear really badly. . . .

I've tried (not sure if this was a good idea ! ! ) some "Jif" cleaner hoping that might get rid of whatever is on the windscreen but it's still as bad. . . .

Can anyone suggest what I can use to get back to a nice clean windscreen . . .

    Thanks

Did you clean the blades as well? Perhaps replace them?

Jif is not a good idea. I would scrub the screen and wiper blades with fairy (house hold degreaser etc) to remove all grease. Also how old are the wipers? they may need changing.

Careful not to get the fairy on the bodywork as it will strip any wax on there too.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Thanks for the replies guys. . . (gotta love the speed of response on this forum )

Sorry I should have said it's definitely something that the garage (where I bought the car from) must have applied; because after it's rained you can actually see on the windsreen where they had the price sticker ! ! !

I think it's probably some sort of wax, but really struggling to remove it . . . Would the A.G glass cleaner remove any wax residue ? ? ?

Car is less than 12 months old, so I'm hoping wiper blades are OK . .

Definately dont use Jif as its abrasive and dont use fairy either as its leaves greasy residue. Just get a decent liquid glass cleaner and clean the blades with it as well.

might be worth also getting some Rain-x for the windscreen, its great stuff, i couldnt drive a car without it. puts a clear film on the screen that repels the water and makes it bead off.

to get oil residue of my screen I used vinegar and an old news paper, put the vinegar on the paper then rub away, then dry with clean sheet of news paper, and jobs a goodun, learnt this trick one day when ere in dooors was watching a program about how clean is your house.

Thinners or acetone is strong stuff if you've got a polymer polish on it, but don't get it on the paintwork.
I've had good results with a supermarket glass cleaning spray, too.
