    Wink Would this work?

Now that the nights are getting colder and the mornings are frosty I want a way to make my car warm for when I get in it.

Sooooo... I was thinking would I be able to start the engine to warm car up and clear windows for when I go to work - but then lock the car with the spare key (whilst engine is still running) whilst I get ready for work. The unlock the car with the spare key and go to work in a nicely warmed up and defrosted car!

Would this be possible? Or will the car reject the spare key locking if another key is in the ignition?

I don't think it would be possible plus someone could still smash the window and have your car!

Besides what Innes says, it's also illegal to leave a vehicle running while unattended.

Sorry if this sounds like a stereotypical comment, but living in Liverpool would probably be a certain bet you'd find the car gone if you left it running but locked up.

Does really matter what part of the country your in, if a cars running with no1 in it and a theifing ******* decides to walk past, it's gone!

As scots dragon said, there are alarm/electrical systems that will allow the car to be started remotely but not driven

Oh and big dave, if you look on http://www.upmystreet.com/local/arti...ime-areas.html you will find that the highest crime rates in the country are all down south well except burglary Lol

You need a Pre Heater - sits in the coolant line.

Very popular in Norway / Sweden

For people who know Liverpool I live in Crosby so isn't that bad of an area compared to some. Car is on driveway at side of house with 3 other cars so could just plan the night before and block my car in.

Does the law on leaving car unattended apply if it is on the drive which is private land?

If anything did happen then your insurance will be invalid. Also the best way to warm up the vec is by driving it. According to the manual you should never leave it idle to warm up as it'll damage the engine.
I noticed tother day that maplins are selling the ceramic dash heater for £7.50ish

    Yes, it does work.
It obviously depends where you live, whether you do it or not
I always used to do it when I had company cars (and wasn't paying for the fuel). I did once have an incident with my old 405, which had fairly crude infra red central locking, I only had one key, so used to pull the key off the ring, start it, then lock it with the remote.
Then one cold morning, the remote battery went..........

The universal key eg Brick would still work because as far as the car is concerned its got a key in so imobiliser is disabled.
