Can anybody tell me how you check if an egr valve needs changing i have cleaned mine every 6 months since ive owned it and its always very sooty i also have a judder if im on the motorway and then go to over take something so planting my foot and get juddering could this be egr related or something else. I do over 100 miles a day to work and back, car has done 82k and is a 1.9 cdti 120. Hope someone can shed light on this for me.

    Hi Daz,
Could be the throttle body cct board needing a resolder; could be a sticky EGR have you cleaned the solenoid?

    Hi Daz,
Within the throttle body (large assy bolted on to inlet manifold, pax side) there is a circuit (cct) board, the solder joints can break.
The EGR solenoid can be cleaned by un bolting it it from the end of the EGR valve, then using a drill (3-5mm), makeing a hole in the plug end, within which you can insert a drift to knock the solenoid assy out. This process is explained within the Vec C website.

Could be throttle body related, if your cleaning the egr regular it should be ok, but a FULL clean as shown in the how 2 is a good idea, also have you thought about the semi blanking gaskets, this will reduce the soot down to nill virtually. pm'd.

You might have actually escaped the throttle problem tbh. I think it only affects 2004 and 2005 CDTI's.
