Can you cut`n`paste the problem Alex ?
Hi all
im hoping somebody can help me,
a few weeks ago i purchased a 1996 1.7td vectra, and i seem to be having problems with it, im getting so fed up with it, im on the verge of phoning the scrap man to take it away, which is a shame as i quite like the car,
PROBLEM 1 the alternator packed up so i bought a reconditioned one.
PROBLEM 2 i disconnected the battery to fit the new alternator and car would'nt start.
PROBLEM 3 a mechanic friend put a live wire, when the ignition is on, to one of the 3 wires to the fuel solenoid, the car ran ok for 1 week and guess what, the alternator packed up again.
PROBLEM 4 i managed to exchange the alternator for another, and fitted it yesterday.
PROBLEM 5 i tested the out put and guess what, this one has packed up.
PROBLEM 6 ive been told by the alternator supplier that there must be a live wire going to an earth, which is breaking the regulator/rectifier in the alternator, he has said to me that he will exchange the alternator for the third time, BUT not a fourth, the live wire that has been put in when ignition is on, could this be the problem, in the first place when the car would'nt start, would it be a faulty immobaliser, i need help ASAP as if i dont get it right this time i will be charged for another alternator,
can somebody please help me as i dont know what is going wrong, the car ran fine before the alternator packed up.
could it be a faulty fuel solenoid and are they easy to change,
all help gratefully recieved.
thats the post.
Cheers Jonno
my guess's..
either, 1... he's left off a wire during this original alternator swap
or 2,he's got a wire with bare portions allowing it to run to ground where the insulation has failed..
It's highly unlikely to be a failed fuel solenoid..
more than likely the key will just need coding to the car again..
i would remove the 'bridge' wire to the fuel stop solenoid and re-trace the work that has been done..sounds like two problems here not one..
