    Default Oh bollox...

Dropped my Canon 400D DSLR on the driveway yesterday....

Although it was in its protective bag, I still heard a 'crack' and feared the worse..

Sure enough, the lens was cracked but thankfully only the filter screwed on the front !! - Very lucky... the rest of the camera appears to have survived.

Anyone want to guess how much a replacement 77mm Polarizer Filter costs

Sooooooooo lucky it wasn't any worse, unless they're gold plated I wouldn't worry about the filter cost.

when I was a kid I dropped my dad's Leica rangefinder (expensive!), he wasn't impressed. Luckily he only had to send it away to get the rangefinder part re-adjusted, he still doesn't let me forget it lol

This thread is an advertisement for keeping at least a crappy UV filter on the lens

    About 7.99 from 7dayshop http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/prod...oducts_id=5966
I've done the same thing in a car park in Spain, when we were in Granada for our Silver Wedding a few years ago -I dropped my 400D in a gadget bag, but a rock was sticking up from the ground. When I opened the bag, I thought I'd smashed my brand new 17-85mm zoom.
Nope, it was the UV filter. Phew!

Yeah, I paid a little bit more than that, but I'm happy with my decision,

I bought the Hoya 77mm Pro1 Circular Polorizing Filter as advertised in Jessops here for £149

    http://www.jessops.com/online.store/...1567/show.html

Lens quality is important to me as I also use a Sigma 10-20mm part-Low Dispersion Glass lens which are around £550.

However, I got my Pro1 filter for £62 from Amazon.

Hope it works and makes my car look good Lens quality is important
