my mate at work has a 1.8 preface. the dash keeps going funny losing power lights, speedo stops working, etc.. had the thermstat changed recently and the guy says his alternator is rattling like hell. could this be the problem.??

The electrical problems he's having certainly seem to suggest it's an alternator issue. They can be tested though, so tell him to get that done before he forks out for a new one.

Yeah, ATS tested mine. My mates alternator clutch bearing went on wednesday and had to have a whole new one.
