I also measured the voltage across the battery. Everything was switched off, no keys in the ignition, all doors shut. Just the bonnet open I left it for 10 mins then measured.

It came up as 12.5v. This sounds OK to me. Is it right?

That voltage doesn't sound too bad, and them plugs look like a right t*** to get to, when you've sorted yours you can check mine mate lol!

They are in such a stupid place. Can just about get my fingers in to touch number three plug but not enough to get the connector off.

I need to have a look in halfrauds to see if they do a socket thats long enough.
But, they look really fragile down there so I am very tempted to get it in the garage and make it someone elses problem

Its a shame cos a set of plugs isn't that expensive. But the labour to do the job will be.

Wish I had a 150, just cos its a far easier engine to access that the 120s.

Did you end up doing them in the end? I have exactly the same faultcode so was going to replace the plugs, any advice or gotchas to be aware of?

    Cheers,

    Sean

Well I replaced the glow plugs and the fault code has gone
for anyone else that has the horid task of changing these, I made myself a very useful tool/bodge which helped in retrieving the plugs once they had ben undone. It consisted of a thin metal rod and onto the end of this I attached a two inch length of airline from a fishtank airpump, this allowed me to retrieve the plugs from the deep dark depths that they hide in!

Well done for doing it yourself

I'm going to get a garage to do it as its beyond me. Besides the error doesn't always appear. Sometimes its starts ok. Especially if I switch the ignition on/off a few times and warm the glowplugs a bit more.

Just spent two hours trying to change the sidelight bulb on the missus megane. Airbox out, battery out and I still can't get at the bulb. Had enough of cars for the moment.

I wonder if it's easier to get to the glow plugs from underneath, although i would image you need a ramp and take the lower engine sound deadner off.

Nah, I don't think it could be done from underneath unles you are double-jointed.

The VX TIS shows doing it from the top but removing the EGR etc first. I also think they have a special tool for the job.

I did take the EGR off to get better access although this only gives better access to 3 and 4 number 2 wasnt to bad but the first one was a pig! If I had to do it again it would be alot easier if I owned a long small extension, im not sure of the size but the smallest you could get and a deep reach 10 to go on it may allow for easier access, unfortunately I only had the standard 1/4" drive with the deep reach so I shredded my hands and lost the socket a few times in the process! and the light comment yeah I had to do both low beams on the vectra it wasnt to bad on the passenger side but the airbox side was a nightmare!

Here are a few pics of where the Glow Plugs are on the 1.9 CDTi 120.
The silver item I have circled in the first pic is the Glow Circuit Relay.
