Has anyone ever actually done any test on the airflow rate of various filters on the Vectra?

The reason I ask is because when I had my Civic everyone went out and bought a Pipercross filter. Myself and a couple of others weren’t convinced they were actually having any effect and the only reason people thought they were helping was because they increased the noise. So along with a BMC filter someone did some testing to find that they are both crap and the OEM filter had the best flow rate.

For anyone interested here is the thread.

So does anyone here have the equipment to do such tests? Or has someone already done them?

    Cheers

    Ziggy

I'll be honest Ziggy I dont even get any more noise from my K & N, I was reading an artical the other day that said that they might make a marginal difference but its so miniscule that you would not notice any difference in power at all. If you think about it your car will only get as much air as its fed so its the intake and cold air feed side of things that should really make any difference.

People on here stick with the k&n because it's all they know and are tempted with the warrantee that comes with it. Only a few will even entertain any other sort. I remember reading an article years ago that regular changes of a oe filtercare just as good as any so called performance filter.

I agree with porkballs that the difference is so small that you will hardly notice a difference, it's probably a placebo effect in most cases as they swear it's running smoother etc.

I agree that the K and N on the 2.8 makes no difference to sound.

The pipercross on the Civic used to make it sound like a bag of nails until the Turbo came in.

I have a K and N in my Vec but think I will see if I can get some RR figures with and with out.

Am I correct in saying that disconnecting the battery between each run (before and after fitting the K and N) should be enough to give accurate figures?

Would be nice to know if its a Placebo effect that is actually loosing us power though.
