Turbo Charger

Hi I am a new member so forgive me if i am posting this problem in the wrong place .I was towing my caravan with my 2.0 L VectraLs DTi (2003 ) .When i lost power engine made a noise and tremendous amount of dense. smoke came out the engine so much that somebody called the fire Brigade. Also the engine would not stop even turning the key off Could somebody tell me if turbo charger gone the cost and would the engine have been damaged Thanks

yep your turbo has gone mate not dure for the dti but for my petrol 2.0 turbo it was £550, your lucky your car lost power as my mates golf turbo went and it just kept revving he couldnt stop it nearly smashed his gbox trying to stop it on hard shoulder lol

try getting hold of a reconed one there just as good for alot less and come with warranty

Bummer, it looks like your turbo oil seals have gone, passing the turbo lube oil straight into the inlet system/cylinders and running untill all the oil has drained through the seals, your lucky the engine didnt blow up "unless that was what all the smoke was?" all the inlet system will be full of oil and turbo blown at a minimum if your lucky "not sure if thats the correct term" I have only seen this happening once before and that engine chucked its rods out of the block with guff all over the floor.
Hope for your sake thats not happened. No idea on cost but ebay may have what you want £150-350 for a turbo??

mine was fine when turbo went mate i even drove it home with my mate in his van with beacons on behind me as i needed him to cover the smoke lol

thanks for all your comments it`s in garage so waitng on outcome .the problem is i`ve only got 45000 on clock (the smoke really was horrendous) so really hoping engine is ok .can the engine be checked without Turbo working .Can the strain of pulling caravan cause turbo to go .I did have a metal to metal noise slightly over last couple of weeks was this the start of it i wonder cheers everybody

Mine has been whistling for a year now but having just spent a load of cash on the DMF and new steering rack (both had failed) I am just waiting for it to let go. I have been told it shouldn't cause too many problems when it does give up so I might as well get as many miles out of it as i can. There is no loss of power yet. 1.9 cdti 16v.

Ouch sounds bad. How heavy is your caravan?

didnt think the 2.0dti would have the power to pull a caravan, i wouldnt use mine to pull one

i was told by a garage when i brought my vectra the reason for the turbos going is because people dont change the oil is that true?
