Default used car purchace, problems on drive home

Hi new on here just got my 1.9cdti (secondhand) on the drive home noticed clutch was very low and tended to be sticky/crash into gears more so going up tho the gears)had to let revs die down to get into gears with out crunching them, tickover seemed lumpy and slow (almost to the point of cutting out) more noticable when you depressed the clutch(also got a noise like thrust bering gone or goosed.also whilst driving the whole car seemed to vibrate, plenty of power there when you gave it some but the whole vibrate thing has got me a bit worried,It's a nice car(04 with 100k on clock)any ideas? to point me in right direction as to where to look/fix

dmf/clutch/slave cylinder not a cheap or easy job..... but if you bought from a garage get it straight back to them

Whole car vibration is normally the DMF/Clutch, would be looking circa £1500 for both to be changed,

Would be taking it back if it were me

    Exclamation

Get it straight back to them and tell them that a mechanic friend has told you it's the DMF and that you want them to sort it,and make sure you tell them you want to SEE the old parts they have replaced.(You can't trust car dealers, even the VX main dealers have been known to pull pretty shady stunts!!).FELIXX.

If you bought it from a garage im sure by law they have to give you 3 months warranty, but if its from a private seller from somewhere like gumtree or out one of the advertising papers I think its sold as seen tbh.

Unfortunaty I bought cheap from a friend who needed help(money) quickly, new there would be faults so did'nt pay that much for it £1300, so if I can get sorted & keep cost down to 2k (inc purchace price)think it would be a bargain , dont know that much about them or what they would cost for a 2004 sri no faults, just a chance I took ,had I lent the money doubt if I would have seen it again,at least this way have something to show for it (hopefully),I have phone around after reading threds on here and found a breakers who say's he has one complete for £150,however knowing what breakers are like for sayin yes these fit (then they dont or are not even for the car you asked for)going to take the gearbox off and get the clutch bit's out so I can visualy check it the right one, befoe payin for it, I sure that I saw something about welding the springs together (or something like that) to fix the problem, anybody on here heard that one?
and would the clutch account for the rough tickover? or is that more an injector problem (seals or whatever)

I have an auto but sounds to me like you may have DMF probs and likely the EGR needs cleaning. Was this a private or dealer sale?

Look throught the 'how 2' section on this forum, go for cleaning the EGR, BOOST SENSOR, THROTTLE BODY, then i would check all of the injector plugs (elec conectors) remove them one by on & give them a squirt with electrical contact spray only!, this should sort most problems apart from the clutch. also look at the repair for the swirls bar for £1.

    Thumbs up

Ta for the info , in process of sorting clutch bits out quotes from £400 to £450 allin (do it myself not fitted) will check the posts out you stated and get on with them first, the bit I stated about welded clutch was totaly wrong seems it some new uprated 1 piece clutch but not for 1.9 (yet) gutted over that ,as would have gone for one of them as a replacement
thanks to all who offerd help to a newbie
