    Default Re-map vs Superchip

Looking for a bit of advice.

As far as I understand it, a superchip is like a pre-defined re-map. Essentially the same method, but a re-map would be done specifically for your actual car, whereas a superchip would be a standard re-map that would just be applied.

Can someone please clarify this for me and tell me if I've got the wrong end of the stick completely?

Also, a custom re-map would be preferable to a superchip, but a superchip would be preferable to a tuning box, right?

Superchip are a tuning company who produce generic maps. Along with a number of other companies that do generic maps.

Personally I would go with a live map (non generic) every time, but thats because I have had some major issues with a generic map, so have been put off them for life. However others have had no problems at all.

A 'chip' is what was used to replace or 'piggy back' onto the ECU chip, and it was soldered in place. Now superceded by remaps.

A remap be it 'Superchips' or anyone else, whether custom or generic, is electronic reprogramming of the ECU by changing parameters within the usable limits of the engine to produce more power and torque. Can also be referred to as 'tuning'.
